I will send my latest map to Zvi's archive today. It concerns Verne's
Glasgow in fact and fiction i.e. it consolidates all the features named in
Voyage à reculons, Les Indes noires, Le Rayon vert, Les Forceurs de blocus
and Les enfants de Capitaine Grant. All the features can be accurately
located and apart from the town residence of "Sib and Seb", all existed in
reality. This map will be included in some work that I am researching which
inter alia tries to answer the question as to why Verne, who was enamoured
by Edinburgh, but disliked Glasgow, should nevertheless feature Glasgow in
four novels whereas Edinburgh appears, rather briefly, in only one (Les
Indes noires).
Regards,
Ian Thompson.
