In fact, we have no sure documents on this question. It's possible that Verne met Nadar through Hetzel, or Hetzel by Nadar (as proposed by Weissenberg in his recent book on Verne, but it is simply hyothetically). It's true that "Five weeks in a balloon" has been publihaed half a year before Nadar had the idea tu build the "Geant" (after the foundation of his Society in July). The best biography on Nadar is "Nadar" by Roger Greaves published in french in 1980 (Flammarion ed.). Nadar, too, published his "A Terre & en l'air. Memoires du Geant" (1864, second edition in 1865, published by Dentu) where he tells the history of the balloon and his flights, but without mentioning Verne at all who, however, should have been one of the compagnonsofn the first flight in oct. 63 (preceeding the desastrous one which ended in Germany). You'll find the same story described in contemporary news-papers. Nadar's Society published a revue called "L'aeronaute", only some copies are conserved in the Paris National Library. Verne
became "censeur" (I don't know the english term) in May 1864). Unfortunally the most important sourses are in French.

The Pilots of Nadar were Jules et Louis Godard, the Pilot von Verne was named Eugene G. They were all brothers.
