So you have a difficult choice. In German, Van Gogh is listed under "G"
as "Gogh, Vincent van".

As the written language is just a static (graphical) reproduction
of the dynamic (oral) language, I think I would opt for the
French way, because "La Fontaine" and "Lafontaine" are just
two different graphic outputs for the same oral input...
In France, every one would say "La Landelle" or "La Mettrie"
when referring to the family name.

But I must admit that I would say "Van Gogh" and would have
tried to find him under "V" (in German). The French put him
under "V" (the Germans under "G" as said at the beginning).

But I cannot speak for the Dutch conventions.
I am sure you make a good choice.
