Tom,

I don't, but perhaps a member (or members) of the Jules Verne Forum, a world
wide mailing of Verne enthusiasts/scholars/etc. might be able to help.

Do you have an idea how to research an apocryphal Jules Verne quotation?

Harper Goff, the production designer for the 1954 film of Twenty Thousand
Leagues, wrote in a letter written in the 1960's that in the novel Nemo says
to Arronax, "I have harnessed the very building blocks of the universe to
drive my craft". If that quotation were accurate, it would mean that when
the film implies that Nemo discovered atomic power, it was basing this on a
hint in the novel. I am sure that no such quote exists in the novel, but I
do not believe that Goff originated it because I know that some individuals
who never heard of Goff have heard the quote (which does not occur in the
film). I suspect it is a piece of Verne folklore which originated around the
same time when atomic power was being discovered. Do you have a notion how
one would track the origin of this apocryphal quote? Is there an index of
"Verneana"?
