Garmt,
Dress code for "cocktails" in France is normally "smart casual" i.e. suit
and tie, but even this has become somewhat relaxed over recent years in
France, especially where a large assembly is present...i.e. jacket and tie
is acceptable but it is quite common to see open necked shirts (though this
I imagine is a way of making a statement!). I would not expect evening
dress to be de rigeur!
