Thanks for the speedy reply. My own impression is the same as yours, that
Verne shows a remarkable knowledge of contemporary China, which, as you say,
must be based on his reading from, I supect, a wide variety of sources. But
then again I'm "half-cooked".

I can probably handle .wps format, if you want to give it a try. Chinese
fonts will cause no problems: as you can see, they're in the present
message, and I've got various Chinese fonts on my PC at home and at work.

A translation of my last message: Thanks a lot for your new message. And
congratulations on escaping the censorshio of the national authorities, who
often want to rewrite history. There is much work to be done on why Verne
supports the Taipings and whether he knew Chinese people in France. My hunch
is that his friend and first critic, the novelist Th¨¦ophile Gautier, acted
as intermediary, but I have no evidence for that.

It seems to me a very good idea to try to make publish your translation in
Hong Kong, undoubtedly in traditional characters.

characters are perhaps too westernised". But in my article(in Chinese),
from my point of view,I said Verne had never been to China,but he created
the characters as the real Chinese people. He talked everything which
happened in ancient China as if he lived in China and experienced all of
those things.It is amasing your westerners say his characters are too
westernised,but Chinese people accept them as typical ancient Chinese.
Kin-Fo and Wang( same as my family name Íõ )£¬a typical ancient Chinese
scholar, and La-oo just like the lady in Qing Dynasty,and all customs are
real and quiet familar to our Chinese people.I often got puzzled when I was
doing the translation, I thought Verne must have read a lot of books about
China since he had never been to the country,otherwise he could not create
these live characters.
    I have to change WPS form into word form before I send my Chinese
translation, I have to ask someone who is very good at computer to help
me.Can you read Chinese in your computer.We used Chinese window XP system¡£
