Dear Mr/Mrs,

 

We write you from Cosmocaixa, the new Science Museum of Barcelona. It opened last September, and has received lots of visitors up to date.

            We are planning an exhibition on Jules Verne and his work for next June. As everybody knows, J. Verne was very interested in science; he is one of the pioneers of science and adventure literature. Nowadays, we celebrate Jules Verne's year, that's why we think it's a good idea having some memories about him. We're presently looking for different editions of his books, in as many languages as possible. We've decided to focus on "Travel to centre to the Earth", because it is one of his most popular books, and because it still represents a challenge for the imagination, as "20.000 Miles..." and "From Earth to Moon" when they appeared. We've tried hard to find editions of this book in non-European languages but it has been an unsuccessful research. We are especially interested in those languages that may be called exotic, as African languages, Scandinavian languages, Arabic, Asian languages, etc. As many as we can.

            We contact you for these reasons, as we know you are a great collector of Verne's books. We wonder if you could let us have some copies of the title mentioned above. Our Intention it's explain to the visitors that J. Verne is an international artist, then we would like to find rare translations of the book (like a Chinese edition) not rare or expansive editions (like French first edition). The Museum will obviously take care of all the expenses of bringing the books here, and returning them to you in the same conditions. We will put the books in a close showcase. The books, as they will be exhibited in a museum, will be treated like art works, as they really are. The exhibition starts on June and will finish in 2006.
