There was an article in the "Perspective" section of the St.Petersburg (Florida) newspaper on July 5, 2005 by one John J. Miller of the Wall Street Journal and the National Review. It was the usual rehash of H.G.Wells as a visionary social critic and Verne as a lightweight hardware Scifi guy. He does credit Verne with anticipating many things correctly and Wells as often erring, but in general it wasn't a great article. I don't know if it has appeared elsewhere. It's probably available online somehow; at least from the St.Pete Times' website. I wrote a letter in response which was actually published in the same section in this week's edition, July 10, 2005, correcting the popular error that Tampa Town is "close to" Cape Canaveral (150 miles is close? -maybe by Texas standards)and trying to lay some of the blame for Verne's lack of fame in English-readers as a social theorist on poor translations, etc., and mentioning the Centennial and the NAJVS's Tampa convention. Hey, any publicity is good publicity, eh? Y
