REPLY: Actually, the one "period" version of Moreau (the Michael York take)
is the least memorable. (Although part of its problem is heavy editing to
impose a Happy Ending by making the Cat-Woman human at the end.) ISLAND OF LOST
SOULS, generally considered the best take, is "contemporary" to the time of its
release, while ironically the most faithful to the novel is arguably the
so-mocked Marlon Brando one (since that includes such usually omitted framing
material as the survival cannibalism of the human castaways and the narrator's
finding on his return to "civilization" he now perceives humans as just so many
more Beast Men.)
