Dear Garmt,

I would like to add my observation. Jules' book is not good, it is a lame and nearly Kafkesque dramatization of the saying that the anglers are "silent fools." But Michel's version seems to me as poor literary trash. I think he had made only one plausible amendment - the suspicion of Jäger that Serge (Ilia in Jules' version) is the boss of smugglers. The rest is but a masquerade, very perdictable and ridiculous. In spite of all the literary faults of Jules' version, I prefer it.

Sincerely

Jan Rychlik
