I just want to say that
1) I've very much enjoyed the debate and discussions about the various
versions and various opinions, it was a great learning experience for me
which made me realize how much I have missed -- as I have only read (and
re-read many times) the old translations of Verne. Before joining this
list, I did not realize the depth of my ignorance concerning the texts.
2) And so I am very eager to not only get Ron's version but the more recent
annotated versions as well. For example, I have enjoyed immensely Bill's
translation and wonderfully referenced version of Hatteras. I enjoy these
critical versions, but there are times I just want to read the story
without the "distractions" (I'm a compulsive reader, if there are
annotations, scholarly notes and references I can not help myself from
reading them). I guess I'm "polygamous" when it comes to my favorite
stories, I love to read them just for the entertainment and I also love to
read annotated/critical versions to delve deeper into the works.
I've purchased Ron's Journey and will soon be ordering 20K, as well as
purchasing the annotated versions of both to my library as well -- Journey
and 20K are my two most favorite stories from Verne and I am more than
pleased to have more than one way to enjoy each of them.
