As am I.

I'm a bit aggravated to discover I've read incomplete texts or texts with
totally "unauthorized" (not written nor even considered by Jules Verne)
additions inserted. I don't mind some translation problems, a perfect
translation just isn't reasonable to expect, but to just leave out entire
sections or make up entirely new sections....

I'm very thankful for the scholarship of the list members, it is as if I
have rediscovered Verne anew, and I still remember fondly discovering him
in the first place, I reread 20K and Journey over and over and over again,
I alternate which one I'm rereading each year (this year is to be Journey
again, though I'm late in starting it this year, but I'll be getting Ron's
edition to read so am glad I waited to start). I definitely want to get
the annotated versions of these two tales as well, so as to dive or dig
(depending upon the novel :-), deeper into the substance and meanings of
the text.

There are some of Verne's stories which I just really couldn't get into,
seemed like something was off about them, and now that I'm discovering the
newer editions, with not only better translations but inclusion of much, if
not all, of the text that was removed (I still can not believe how much
text was sometimes removed from Verne's tales for the American market),
I've discovered those texts to fully function now, and thus a much better
read. So to all ye Verne scholars, keep up the damn fine work!

David
