Hello All,

My own thinking on this question is that Verne probably exaggerated the
weather extremes for Lincoln Island, but not unduly so. Let us not forget
that the latitude he gives for the island is comparable to the coastline of
North Carolina in the Northern Hemisphere. Snow, ice, cold, wind, and other
extremes are certainly not unheard of for islands along the North Carolina
coast, and it could be that Lincoln Island would be similarly tried.

Raymond

Yes of course Thomas. As for all small Islands , air temperature is about
the same than that of the sea surrounding the island. Tabor () lying, one
can suppose that the type of climate is rather fresh temperate (ie, neither
snow nor very hot temperatures) and probably windy ...

You are right Tom, as for all the islands lost in the medium of the oceans,
the temperature of the air on supposed Ile Tabor (or of the supposed Maria
Theresa reef, 35°12S 136°40W) is about the same one as that of the sea
which surrounds it. This type of climate is I believe called
fresh-temperate or hyperoceanic, i.e. in this case without freezing nor snow
and temperature exceeding 25-30°C and most probably windy. The most
comparable climate seems to me that which occurs within the Amsterdam and St
Paul islands in the Indian Ocean (lots of meteorological data exist for
these islands).
