If by "generous spirit... on a larger basis" you mean that contributions would be useful then you can certainly count me in. To whom do I send the check?

It may be that the generous spirit David has demonstrated will be required
on a larger basis, depending on the preservation work that needs to be
done. The cylinders will need to be copied on to masters, which can be
preserved untouched (hopefully in an archive, at the proper temperature
and humidity), with a second master used to provide access copies. (And
there may be more intermediate steps involved; we need to follow archival
standards and "get it right" the first and maybe only time.)

This is certainly the biggest preservation project for the Verne
community since the Societe undertook alone the costly restoration of
Michel's 1916 film, LA DESTINEE DE JEAN MORENAS, which was eventually
offered on video. Perhaps in the case of the recordings, in the spirit of
the Mondial, and the many friendships made there, we can see a cooperation
among the Verne associations of the world. Surely nothing can bring us
together more than to be able to finally hear the master speak, and to
preserve his voice for posterity.
