The idea of adding special areas of interest re Verne might have some value although I tend to think that most members of the Forum are interested, if only casually, in all aspects of Verne's life and work. The value to me is the range of topics that arise...as a latecomer to Verne I find this range of discussion of educational value.My concern re specifying interests too closely is that bi-lateral discussions will arise that the rest of the Forum will not be able to profit from.
I can't see any advantage, or relevance, of specifying date of birth, or providing photographs (especially in my case!). Surely the ethic of the Forum is as a community of scholars/enthusiasts who enjoy sharing information and opinions communally rather than acting as an introduction to persons with similar interests....these interests are surely already obvious from the topics that members post.
Some additional information could be added to the membership list but I hope not at the risk of diluting the solidarity of the Forum as it exists.
On a banal note...my email address has changed to;
ian.thompson~at~ges.gla.ac.uk as a result of my university's wish to standardise addresses.
