Cristian, you're right. Mariani was sending bottles of his coca-wine to all celebrities of his time, including Jules Verne. The fact is mentioned in several biographies.

I did some research and could find out that the Coca-Cola drink has its origin in Corsica. To know more about, please go to p. 195-199 of my "Jules Verne en son temps", Amiens, encrage, 2004

You will find there Verne's letter thanking Mariani for having send him a case of coca-wine bottles!
