Parallel texts is what they often do for authors in the literary canon. But
... unpublished works by dead authors are still in copyright; publishers
might not be too keen; and I did try employing native speakers to transcribe
the MSS - the easy parts, in copperplate and not crossed out - and they
couldn't begin to decipher them!

Most of the MSS will, sooner or later, be published online
(http://www.arkhenum.fr/bm_nantes/jules_verne/_app_php_mysql/ms/recherche_al
pha_cles.php) so transcriptions will eventually emerge. University research
"projects" consuming taxpayers' money regularly consume millions of dollars
- so you'd think a little could be diverted to something useful like that.
Perhaps in time for 2028 ... ?

How 'bout an annotated edition with the MSS. and the published version in
parellel columns?

The first such Verne book to be so honored would have to be Twenty Thousand
Leagues, but let's not stop there!!!

Bill, maybe you'd better found an institute for the training of the schoarly

army it will take to reveal the "hidden treasures" now buried beneath
"edited", or rather censored, versions!!!! It may take more than one man's
threescore and ten to scrape away all the dross.
