Dear friends!
Just a short report...
I am thankful to Mr Butchers permission to me for
using his recent biography about Jules Verne as a
source for my list of... well, we could say "In the
circle around Jules Verne" (is it "Liason du Jules
Verne in French?). You know what I mean.
This means I have spent some evenings re-reading Bills
book, and listing all the names that comes through.
The information is name, occupation/title,
birth/death, time of event when the person was
included JV's life), and a short note that describes
the person.
This project have rised several problem to me. First
of all, there is **** a lot of new information that
contradicts earlier English biographies about Jules
Verne. So my own "book" about Verne have to be edited
a little bit. I am very happy I didn't printed my
stuff earlier...
The second problem, which I hope will be less
difficult, is to with a humble letter send Bill a
message of the errors I find in his text. Well, it
wouldn't be many pages, but at least my suggestions of
correction does prove I have read his book :-)
The third problem is how my project with this list
should continue. Monsieur Dekiss sent a courriel
earlier this month and promised that the Centre are
willing to help. I sure know my limits as a
researcher, so I guess I am just the starter of the
list. So far as the list is done know, I feel that it
could be well worth to spend energy to complete it
with more information. And I feel it neccesary. For
reasons of style and space, Bill haven't included
complete information about every person who figure in
his book. I hope he have more (first hand-)
information that was left over when the biography was
written. Other schoolars input is also thankful.
As I have done now with the project, it is clearly a
"cut and paste" (with my pen) from Bills book (I try
to not cut too much, but I am tempted), but the list
creates new questions about people around Jules Verne.
I will continue to take names from Bill's book, and
later read through the other biographies that I have
access to (they are not too many). The list could be
published for the members of this Forum and the
Centre, and we could have a discussion about what is
true or fake in it.
To me, I would like to have a proper name of this
project. Any ideas?
Best regards
Peter Harold
