  Time differences are always a tricky thing. French people generally say
  "15" days for two weeks (where we say "14 days" in German), whereas in German
  we say either "7" days for one week, or sometimes "8 days" (by adding:
  "today in 8 days" -- "heute in acht Tagen") and in French it is just
  "7" days.

Dear Ralf,

I can add that in Spanish we say "dentro de 7 días" and "dentro de 15 días".

Also that Verne did write "8 jours".




  Here is what dictionaries say:


  1) Encyclopédie de Diderot et d'Alembert (1751-1765) :

  "Ce calendrier fut introduit dans les états protestans
  d'Allemagne l'an 1700, où l'on retrancha tout-d'un-coup
  onze jours du mois de Février ; de maniere qu'en 1700
  Février n'eût que dix-huit jours...

  for brief translation: "in protestant parts of Germany,
  eleven days were left out in February 1700 so that
  said month had just eighteen days."

  2) Le Littré (ca. 1875) :

  "Nouveau calendrier, ou calendrier grégorien,
  celui qui est conforme à la réforme faite par le pape
  Grégoire XIII et qui ajouta à l'année de cette réforme
  onze jours, erreur entre le temps vrai et le temps du
  calendrier Julien produite par des quantités que
  n'avait pas connues l'astronome Sosigène."

  "eleven days were added to the reform year and this is equivalent
  to the error between real time and Julian time..."

  3) Le Grand Dictionnaire Universel (de P. Larousse) (vers 1878)

  "La Russie persiste à conserver le CALENDRIER JULIEN,
  en retard aujourd'hui de douze jours sur le soleil. (Proudh.)
    ("... Russia sticks to the JULIAN CALENDAR, which, today,
   lags behind the sun by twelve days...")

The differences between both calendar was 11 until 1800, then was 12 until 1900, and now is 13.
