BlankIn a blog from a Malaysian located at
http://idamsdh.multiply.com/ it
mentioned that she was involved in a school production of Around the World
in Eighty Days and this raises an interesting question. I'm a member of a
theatre group here in Wales and in 2005 we did "A Christmas Carol" by
Charles Dickens, but it had been adapated by John "Rumpole of the Bailey"
Mortimer. One day, I forgot where I had put the book and so printed off the
words from an online version of A Christmas Carol and found to my amazement
that they were the same (i.e Mr. Mortimer had copied the work word for word
and just turned into a play). This got me thinking and so I would like to
know the answers to the following questions:
1) If I turned "Around the World in Eighty Days" into a play in the same
manner, would the group who are unable to film copyrighted works be able to
film the production?
2) Having turned it into a play, could I change the whole sutee incident (as
the group play to a family audience) to being rescued from a tribe of Welsh
druids expelled from Wales in the mid 17th century?
