Hi David--
The most skippable chapter BY FAR is II 7 -- lengthy catalogs of marine
fauna in the Mediterranean with a little vulcanism midway to break the
monotony.
Next your engineering majors engineers can feasibly duck these "traveling
chapters." (I.e., these are quiet interludes between the big adventure
scenes: the Nautilus logs some major mileage while its passengers while the
time away with oceanographic discussions.)
I 14 -- Our heroes learn Lacepede's scheme for classifying fish.
I 18 -- The Nautilus tours Oceania while Nemo and Aronnax discuss subsurface
currents.
I 19 -- Still in Oceania, N. & A. this time discuss a long-lost expedition.
II 1 -- Catalogs of marine fauna in the Indian Ocean.
II 4 -- Catalogs of marine fauna in the Red Sea.
II 17 -- Catalogs of marine fauna in the south Atlantic.
II 19 -- U.S. ichythology and meterology.
II 20 -- Catalogs of marine fauna in the north Atlantic.
As for the chapters your budding engineers absolutely MUST NOT MISS, they
are: I 12-13 (how the Nautilus works), I 15 (how the diving gear works), II
11 (how things could potentially go wrong) and II 15-16 (how things DO go
wrong).
I hope this is helpful. Best of luck and happy new year!
All the best,
Rick

Subject: 20K - which chapts to skip? (sorry 4 the blasphemy)
