Sorry, the lower bound for Frewer edition should have been 100.

Wiith the completion of the translationof the last 10 chapters of HS and the corrections to show both the folio and magazin versions, and after much fussing around with MS Word for counting, the final count for the occurrences of "jew/juif" are now available.

      Magazin version . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . 62
      Hetzel revised folio . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. 18
      Frewer xlation, Sampson Low/Scribners. . .. 100

The Frewer count was from the Gutenberg online version, known to be missing Part II Chap 3,The History of Comets and perhaps other deletions. 62 is therefore a lower bound.

The Hetzel count is from the online French edition, same as the Livre de Poche and folio versions.

The counts for the magazin version were from the Munro translation through Part II Chap X and from the new translation of the folio version Part II Chap X! through XX, back translated by Christian Sánchez to the magazin edition.

This seems to confirm suspicions about Frewer's parphrasing of the magazin version.
