Greetings!

My health cannot permit me be amongst you this year 2008. I wish good annual
meeting to all of you. I'll see how to renew my membership from June 2008.
My kindest greetings to all of you. I love you. Thank you.

Forum & NAJVS members (via Bcc):

I meant to send this out last weekend, but I have been busy getting ready
for our annual meeting next weekend.

Last September forum and NAJVS member Richard Gombert brought to our
attention a new version of "Around the World in 80 Days" was going on stage
in Chicago in April/May 2008. I saw that Looking Glass Theatre production
last Friday night and was delighted by the performance. The play itself
only runs for one more week, so it is unlikely anyone reading this now will
be able to attend, but it is nice to know that occasionally a Jules Verne
story can still be seen on stage.

Here is a link to the theatre company's website.

Clicking on the images link you can see pictures of the set and some of the
cast.

My favorite line from the play, which I think I was the only one in the
audience of nearly 400 who appreciated...

In America, after Passepartout has been rescued they are trying to decide
what to do next as there won't be a train until the next day. When
Passepartout suggests that perhaps they try taking a balloon, Phileas
remarks, "I'm telling you no matter how carefully you look -- (Out to the
audience) There is no balloon in the book."

I can also honestly say that the playwright Laura Eason stuck to the basic
story and if she made any changes they were very subtle.

Next weekend at our meeting Jean-Michel Margot will be telling us about
"Jules Verne on Stage". It is nice to know that it is a topic that
continues to grow.

If you can endeavor to attend we would be delighted to see you. For those
already coming, I look forward to getting together with you all again and
for those I'll be meeting for the first time the same is true.

P.S. I've also just heard today about this multi-media event going on in New
York City on June 5th.
