BlankTonight is our last night on board and the cCptain has invited both
myself and my uncle (who I am pleased to report seems to be recovering from
his mal de mer) to dine with him at his table (which I understand is a great
honour). And it is quite handy as well, as I have decided to ask the Captain
a favour.
This afternoon I wrote a letter to my dear Gräuben and will ask him to
deliver the letter to her if (and only if) Sneffels explodes between June
29th and July 3rd. This will ensure that if I am killed due to my uncle
being incorrect in his assumption that Sneffels is extinct, Gräuben will
understand my true feelings for her and hope that it will offer some solace.
I will say one thing though and that is yesterday evening, I saw a shooting
star cross the sky so closed my eyes and said the following: "Doctor Smith,
I wish that I am able to return in one piece to my dear Gräuben so that I
can make her a true lady!". When I opened my eyes I am convinced that I saw
the star stop momentarily, hover and then shoot back the way it had come. I
am taking that as a sign that my wish was heard.
