Harry,

As there was only one version in 1999, they are both showing the same
version, the one starring Treat Williams.

You'll find all the details about this and the numerous other Journey
versions in an article Brian Taves wrote that is posted on our website.

You can get to it by clicking on "Adapting Jules Verne's Journey to the
Center of the Earth" on this page...

Subject: I'll be too busy with the Olympics

but it appears that over the next week or so, Monsieur Verne is flavour of
the month

The TV movie from 1999 is being broadcast on Sky Two this evening at 9.00pm
(with a repeat showing on August 23rd at 8.00pm)
(Synopsis: Adaptation of Jules Verne's classic novel in which an intrepid
geologist leads a perilous expedition to the centre of the Earth in a bid to
save a missing explorer. Facing death at every turn, the rescue party
encounters prehistoric creatures, cannibalistic natives and a villain who
has gained mastery over this subterranean kingdom)

Another TV movie from the same year is being broadcast on the Sci Fi channel
on August 30th from 3.50pm
(Synopsis: Geologist Theodore Lytton, his young nephew Jonas and Alice
Hastings go in search of her missing husband deep in the centre of the
Earth. Facing death at every turn, the trio encounters prehistoric life
forms and cannibalistic Maoris, only to find that Alice's husband has turned
into a baddie. Will they escape or will they fall prey to the evil Casper
Hastings?)

Might I observe that these TV movies seem to take the idea and then say (and
I apolgise for the language) "Merci Jules de nous donner l'idée, maintenant
obtenez perdu et laissez les experts en travail!"
