Now, I realise this might raise some hackles

BlankThe British press (as you would expect) has been full of the news this
morning that Britain is the official Olympic host and has been putting
forward suggestions based on what it's readers say should be in the opening
ceremony of London 2012. These range from the sensible:

The opening ceremony should be a reflection of the British nation and should
have at least one element showing the cultural diversity of Great Britain

to the downright silly

I would like to see the London bus from the handover ceremony in Beijing be
parked in the centre of the Olympic Stadium and then be torched to
demonstrate the breakdown of Britain

However, I am wondering whether I should contact the London Organising
Commitee with the following suggestion:

Britain, as we know, has played host to several famous characters not only
in British literary history, but global literary history. I would like to
suggest therefore that as part of the opening ceremony, London 2012 pays
homage to these characters by having Phileas Fogg personally shake the hand
of every flag bearer as they enter the stadium and announce the names of the
countries competiting in French, English and the offical language of that
nation.

Does that sound like a sensible idea (or would the French delegation refuse
to shake his hand citing that he was the invention of a French author)?
