Dear Cecile Farkas,

While Harry raises some good questions, particularly the portion regarding commentary or supplementary materials on the original film, I might add a slightly different emphasis, akin to those of Garmt.

- If the DVD is region-free, that will encourage international sales, and Verne really is an author with a global following.

- fnac is not good in handling international sales, certainly to the US; amazon is far more reliable.

- Any language possibilities as far as subtitles are an added bonus; even if English is not a possibility, sometimes we may be better at a written foreign language than if it is spoken!

- It may be productive to consider in publicity that this is one of many screen versions of this story:
it has been filmed before in France in 1907,
twice  in the US in 1961 (ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS: THE CHANGING HEART--directed not by Hitchcock but by the noted French cineaste of Hollywood, Robert Florey--and SHIRLEY TEMPLE THEATER: THE TERRIBLE CLOCKMAN),
for French television in 6/26/1973, director, Pierre Bureau;
in France in 1987, director, Jacques de Berne;
and in 1988 by L'Association pour le recherche Pedagogique. a video for teaching.

You can read my detailed analysis of the two US versions in *The Jules Verne Encyclopedia* (Scarecrow, 1996).  The North American Jules Verne Society screened the Library of Congress's copy of the Temple version at our 2004 conference, and publicized its DVD release some years later.

I discuss the Shirley Temple show of Zacharius online at
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0699636/usercomments
(Despite Temple's presence, this is a surprisingly adult adaptation.)

As both the US 1961 television versions reveal, it is possible to shift much of Verne's story but still tell it in a way that is relevant to the original and  artistic filmically.
I am certain that your DVD will be of interest to Vernians, and I for one will be eagerly looking forward to adding it to my collection,

Dear Cecile,

You have already reached a large number of Verne enthusiasts by
sending your message to the Jules Verne Forum. The news will no doubt
be picked up and transmitted through other channels, but it could be
useful for you to spread the word yourself. Two francophone places
that come to mind:

Jules Verne News (http://julesvernenews.blogspot.com/)
Portail Jules Verne (http://www.fredericviron.com/verne/modules/news/)

There are plenty of other forums, clubs or societies in other
languages, but I guess most of these have active members who read the
Jules Verne Forum, Jules Verne News and/or the Portail Jules Verne. I
myself, for example, will forward your message to the Dutch Jules
Verne Society, of which I am the president.

Some additional information would be welcome. As Harry Hayfield asked:
what languages are available, either as audio track or as subtitles,
and are there any extras? Also, where can the DVD be purchased? I
noticed it's not available at amazon.fr, but you can order it at
fnac.fr. And, perhaps relevant to our friends outside Europe, is it
only available as Zone 2 DVD?

Best regards,
Garmt de Vries-Uiterweerd.

I can't speak for the forum as a whole, but my first impressions would be as follows:

How faithfully does this production follow the book?
Is there the option of either an English audio track or English subtitles?
Is it a vanilla DVD or does it have background information?
