I share your frustration at the speed with which most translations go out of
print. But please remember that the average English-language book is pulped
after only 6 months.

I am confident that the OUP translations/editions will stay in print for
another decade or two (apart from Hatteras?): the first one was done in
1990, so that would make 30 or 40 years. And, after 50 or 60 years, you
really do need new translations, although the older ones still retain some
value.

Yes it is nice that so many Verne's books have been re-translated in modern
versions. Not so nice is to learn that translations only a few years old
such as Baldick's AWED are now collector's items available only through
library discards. Will we soon have to plan for new translations every 25
years as the old ones get re-cycled?
