Interesting, Harry! I looked up the proceeding of the Dutch
parliament, which are, unfortunately, only available online from 1995
onwards. I found five references to Jules Verne: one about the
Mysterious Island hydrogen discussion, one about mobility, and twice
by speakers who would go around the world not in 80 days, but in 10
minutes, in some debate on international politics. The most curious
reference I found in a bill on remunerations for damage to crops.
Apparently, the bulbs of the Longiflorum Jules Verne are worth 112.000
guilders (or 50.000 euro) per hectare.
