We know that Verne has inspired a lot of things (not least the inventions
that he first wrote about) but I am wondering if we can now add pop music to
that list. Smash Hits (a pop video channel in the UK) is today counting down
the 100 cheesiest pop tunes ever and at number 63 is "This time I know it's
for real" by Donna Summer from 1989 with a video that's main storyline
appears to be travel. During the video the a red line does some travelling
as well and I would like to know if members think the locations has been
influenced by Verne:
Point of Origin: London
First Location: Shanghai, China: Home Port of the Carnatic
Second Location: Honolulu, Hawaii: Known in Verne's day as the Sandwich
Islands, visible from the Grant as Fogg and crew crossed the Pacific
Third Location: San Francisco, California: Where Passepartout misjudged his
landing and where Colonel Proctor challenges Fogg
Fourth Location: New York, New York: Where they miss the Liverpool and hitch
onto the Henrietta instead
Destination: London
I have taken some screencaps of the maps (which look more 1930's than
1870's) and would happily send them on if it would explain?
