Hi,

just read the article of Garmt concerning the determinantion of Julia. I agree fully with his theorie that Verne first took Julia and then searched a circle with 3 spots on it. But concerning the accuracy it must be also seen another point: Also a real Kamylk-Pacha or his captain will probably not have used much different methods as Verne did - as Garmt say the exact determination have to be calculated by a real specialist of the sphéric geometry, and not every nautical studied in these times nor in our times is so intensive aware of the rules of Neper or similar spheric calculation that he might create the necessary way of calculation aside of fixed formulars used normally in navigation. Same as Juhel..... Navigators are the ones using spheric geometrie more than most of men, but only in the simplified way and very seldom as a mathematic studied like to do...

Best regards

Bernhard
