I placed those capsule reviews on imdb.com, amazon, and elsewhere last year to help interested viewers sort out the different versions in the wake of the 2008 3-D theatrical release.

Film distributors will do whatever might help to sell their work, and slapping an inappropriate title on a work is among their milder sins.  Ideas from ERB's Pellucidar saga have often had JV's title pasted over:  another one is listed by Chistian:  http://www.jverne.net/cine/nucleo2003.htm

6.30pm July 29th 2009 on the movies4men channel (Sky 323)
Journey to the Centre of the Earth (1976) starring Kenneth More
Synopsis: http://www.amazon.com/Where-Time-Began-Kenneth-More/dp/6301647289
by Brian Taves

10.55pm July 30th 2009 on the Zone Horror channel (Sky 319)
Journey to the Centre of the Earth (unknown)
Synopsis: Straight to DVD release that may take a Verne title, but is based
on a book by Burroughs (from Wikipedia)

Is this common for a film to be called one thing (but be based on something
completely different)?
