We have decided on a name for the kitten (and to be honest it's a name
she chose for herself). Ever since William brought the kitten in, it's
been lying on or near to any heat source it can find, be it the log
fire in the main living room, inbetween myself and my wife (which
caused a little alarm this morning) or even sitting next to the range
(which proved a slight problem for Passepartout). In light of this
affection for all things warm, I looked in a book of names I have and
looked for a name that had a connection to warmth or fire. After an
hour or so, I had come up with Calida, Chuma and Therma. Now, I know
that we Victorians have come up with some odd names in the past (I once
went to school with a Chimney Pot!) but I felt those were a bit off
putting, I mean can you imagine me shouting "Here Therma, kitty, kitty,
kitty!". So I looked at some other options based on warmth or heat, and
found a name that I think is simply marvellous. I picked the kitten up
(not that it seemed very impressed as it yowled bitterly) and
said "Hello there Enya!" at which point she stopped yowling, looked at
me then and purred her head off, which I can only assume means that she
likes it.

And in case you are wondering:

The girl's name Enya is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and is a variant of
Eithne. In ancient Gaelic means "fire".
