The Signet Classic paperback edition of 'The Mysterious Island'
carries a painting of Kynance Cove, Cornwall, with part of Asparagus
Island on the left and Steeple Rock in the centre.

Car(rus) was one of the few words adopted into Latin from Celtic and,
in Cornish today (which I speak) the word remains carr, pl. kerry.
'Braccae' (breeches, trousers) was another - The early Romans called
the Celts barbarians because they wore trousers - it was Roman cavalry
soldiers who thought they were a damn good idea, adopted them, and
stopped their bare legs getting chafed.
