The augmented reality functions are things that museums are looking into. They
generally involve not just a camera and Internet connection but also a GPS and
magnetometer so that the program can know where the phone is and in which
direction it is facing. I think the iPhone added these with the 3GS model about
a year ago.
In a similar fashion, there are iPhone apps to let you see a reminder at a
particular geographic location. The augmented reality apps go a step further by
showing the phone camera view with an overlay of text and graphics to guide the
user. It's a cool idea but can you imagine holding your phone up to your face
as you walk around a busy public area. It almost invites a "here's my expensive
smart phone, grab it from my hands" reaction from the less savory elements in
the world.
Also, do you want something that is only relevant where Verne or his heroes
visited? If so, there'd be little to see for someone in my part of the world,
San Diego, California, USA aside from the start of Mistress Branican and that
might not be included if it is too obscure a novel.
On the notion of CGI (computer-generated imagery) movies, I have seen some
interesting demo work from a system called Poser which lets people design
worlds, populate them with people, and move them about in those worlds. Here's
an example
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkOMh2zjNr8 that is inspired by a web
comic called 2-D goggles about Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace and adventures
they have which are loosely inspired by historical tidbits from their lives.

With the speedy advances being made in information technology, I think it would
be good for Jules Verne societies to work on such matters as a dedicated part of
their mission. Google Earth, Google Maps, smartphone applications are but a few
ways to help spread the word and world of Verne. SecondLife is another; I've
seen some good things with Verne in SecondLIfe, but I've seen some sad ones as
well -misinformation or otherwise poorly thought out. Usually Verne in SeconLife
has been steampunked (I'm a fan of Steam Punk and so while I don't mind
alternative treatments or a respectful honoring Verne as an influence on Steam
Punk I would like to see "pure" Verne as well, otherwise the average person will
only think of Verne as a Steam Punk author, when he wasn't. Steam Punk became
recognized as a genre in the 1980's - 1990's and was influenced, in part, by
Verne, but it is not Verne). If Verne societies do not actively get involved we
will see more myths and misconceptions (however innocently done) spread across
the digital world. For some people, their only experience with Verne will be
with the movies or what they see online in SecondLife.
