A letter describing how David Livingstone killed and ate an elephant has
been sold for £28,800 ($46,080) at auction. The letter, written in
November 1861 to the Prime Minister (Lord Palmerston), describes how
Livingstone's part (during the Zambezi expedition of 1858 - 1864) killed
an elephant for food and then witnessed the rest of the herd mourning.
The letter had been estimated to sell for £8,000 ($12,800)
