Friends,
a few words from Ian, as his computer failed:

Harry was right that the BBC "Coast" series is to broadcast a feature on Verne and the Green Ray. It was filimed last week aboard the paddle steamer "Waverley"...the last ocean going paddle steamer in Britain and possibly Europe. Like Verne in 1879, the voyage was in the Glasgow Fair holiday and in superb weather. The filming consisted of myself being interviewed at intervals, interviews on board with the captain, generall marine landscapes and a number of "vox pop" interviews with members of the public. We found only one person who knew of the green flash and one who had actually seen it (but in the Caribbean!).
Our route was from Largs to Rothesay, through the magnificent Kyles of Bute to Tarbert....the whole cruise lasting 9 hours. The broadcast will focus on Verne but with some other inserts, especially concerning the steamer. It is scheduled for July 2012.
My book on Verne and Scotland is at the printers and will be launched at the Edinburgh International Book Festival. Simultaneously Luath will be publishing a new translation of The Blockade Runners to which I have added a substantial contextual essay. A busy summer!
Ian
