Well, Harry, since you mention USGS, the irony is that the epicenter is in the district of our local Congressman, a conservative leader who wants to de-fund that agency ....
 
... but personally all us native Californians have lived through many a bigger one.
 
I only noticed lots of stuff had fallen when I got home yesterday.  Tho I did hear a report of strange rumblings in North Carolina, and late last night I thought I detected the sound of beating wings, as if some mighty bird of prey were flying overhead.

We felt it in Philadelphia. It was like a huge truck rumbling by under my office window, rattling the glass - but it kept on going. I had just gotten up to confer with colleagues about beating a hasty retreat when the trembling stopped.
