Channel 5 in the United Kingdom, has a programme called "The Gadget Show" where each week the presenters are challenged to demonstrate the best use of technology. This week's challenge was "Technologise a piece of classic literature". Otis (formerly of CBBC) chose Bram Stoker's Dracula and turned it into a online comic, whilst Suzy Perry (formerly of Treasure Hunt on BBC) chose "Around the World in Eighty Days" and turned it into a social media app. Both have been released on the Channel 5 website at
http://draculacomic.co.uk/ and
http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/suzi-perrys-around-world-in/id463310187?mt=8&ls=1 (via iTunes) and I would be very interested in member's views (not only on Phileas getting social but both recreations).
The challenge was judged by Iain M Banks. Around the World was judged first and he seems to approve of the innovations especially blowing to make the iceboat sail. Dracula was then judged which he found a great deal of fun but was concerned it was a little limiting. Overall, he was impressed by both submissions, and the winner was "Around the World in Eighty Days" which was awarded the prize on account of having the actual words still in the app.
