In fairness, they seem to recognize that the Onion piece is a fake in the linked article.  It seems as if it is merely a method to attract interest to a collection of photos of steampunk craft designs. I note also this unfortunate phrase which shows that the author's knowledge of Verne comes from the Disney film rather than the book: Nonetheless, given Verne’s track record of predicting developments like the nuclear powered submarine and journeys to the moon, a tale about a Victorian era camera phone sounds plausible. In the world of Tom Swift books, it is getting to the point where the character is remembered only by way of an adverbial joke form called "Tom Swifties" that claimed to be inspired by the sentence structure of the texts.  However, the pattern used in the jokes is actually very rare in the series.   James D. Well, as we noted in late March, the gag has been resuscitated ... and it's now being given serious credence in some quarters:   >  >http://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2012/04/18/steampunk-cameras-from-jules-vernes-anachronistic-camera-phone-to-the-penta > > >In his time-honored role of Great Prognosticator, Verne seems to be one of those historical figures about whom folks will believe anything.   >  >All the best, >  >Rick >  >Frederick Paul Walter >Albuquerque, New Mexico
