Dear Vernians,

In \"Les Cinq Cents Millions de la Bégum\" J.V. mentioned the escape
velocity of earth\'s gravity is 150 leagues/min.
I would like to know what was the value of leagues used by J.V.
According to wikipedia
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lieue
there were different values for league at the end of XVIII century.
As you know the novel was written in 1879, when the metrical system was
widely used.
Why J.V. did not used the metrical system in this and his other novels?
